Display and daily use
The 1050’s display and speaker are useful if you want clear mapping, audible guidance and an electronic bell from the head unit. The 1040 is worth considering for long rides where charging opportunities matter more than the brighter display. Battery estimates depend on brightness, navigation, sensors, connected features and power settings; do not compare a battery-saver figure with a normal-use figure.
Navigation, training and sensors
Both families support mapping, training data and compatible cycling sensors. Check the specific feature and regional service you need on Garmin’s current compatibility pages. Some connected features require a paired phone, app or subscription, and software can change the feature comparison over time.
Check the Solar option separately
The 1040 listing includes a Solar variant. Solar-assisted runtime depends on conditions and is not the same claim as the standard 1040’s battery duration. Select the intended variant and compare its included mounts, cables and accessories before ordering.
