A bottom bracket connects two specifications: the frame’s shell and the crank’s spindle. Identify both, then choose a TRiPEAK bottom bracket that lists that combination.
1. Identify the frame shell
Start with the frame maker’s specification for the exact model and year. Record the standard and shell width. The current Precision Watts range includes the following applications:
| Frame standard | Current listed shell application |
|---|---|
| BSA | 68 mm threaded road shell. |
| ITA | 70 mm Italian threaded road shell. |
| T47 | Separate 68/73 mm, 77.5 mm and 86/85.5 mm listings. |
| BB86 | 41 mm bore; listed as 86 mm by TRiPEAK, with separate crank options. |
| BB386 | 46 mm bore and 86 mm listed shell width. |
| BB30 / PF30 | A combined 68 mm listing specifying 42 mm BB30 and 46 mm PF30 interfaces. |
| BBright | 46 mm bore and 79 mm listed shell width. |
2. Identify the crank spindle
TRiPEAK’s official 3-in-1 Core System article names three spindle standards: Shimano Hollowtech II at 24 mm, SRAM DUB at 28.99 mm and ROTOR 3D+ at 30 mm. On a compatible 3-in-1 bottom bracket, the specified core setup lets you change between those crank standards while retaining the bottom bracket in the frame.
The frame interface stays the same. A BSA unit stays in a BSA frame; the 3-in-1 system changes the supported crank interface. Check the individual listing for the road crank applications and spacers it supports. The two current BB86 listings have different crank compatibility, so use their specifications directly.
3. Match the product and tool
The bottom bracket fit finder links to all ten current products and shows the required tool alongside each one. TRiPEAK’s tool guidance distinguishes products marked for a standard Shimano-pattern tool from products marked TRiPEAK TOOL REQUIRED. Choose the tool from the exact product specification.
Why TRiPEAK uses different fit systems
On its technology page, TRiPEAK describes Twist-Fit for press-fit shells with a dual-sided locking arrangement. Snug Fit uses a bushing intended to protect the frame’s seating surface. These are fit-system features; select them by the frame application and product instructions.
